What causes limescale buildup
or hard water?
Many Caribbean territories have ‘hard’ water (high levels of calcium and magnesium mineral deposits in the water). Any water system using groundwater as a source would be impacted by water hardness.
In Barbados & Jamaica, the lime/coral stone make-up elevates hardness levels.
- As rainwater filters through the soil and stone, it collects calcium and magnesium minerals as it moves into our aquifers.
- The Water Authorities then pump water up from the aquifers and treats it with chlorine before pumping it to homes in Barbados.
How our Water Softeners Work
Newport’s water softeners effectively remove calcium and magnesium minerals that cause water hardness. When hard water flows through the softener, the resin beads remove the calcium and magnesium in the water, making the water soft. A backwash process recharges the resin when it is full and flushes the contaminants down the drain.

ChloroShield Clearess® filter media incorporates Chlorostatic® Technology to effectively reduce chloramine and chlorine from every tap in the home.
It will reduce chloramine/chlorine taste and odor for up to 2,600,000 gallons of municipal water at normal service flow rates
